The first day of Advent
As you know today is the first day of advent and to help me mark off the days leading up to Christmas mummy bought me a playmobil advent calendar.
The idea is that each day I have to find the box marked 1, 2, 3 and so on right up to Christmas Day. Each box contains a surprise. Sadly, so I’m led to believe, non of the boxes contain any chocolate. Today I opened box 1 which had a tiny little table in it. I had to place the table on the miniature scene at the bottom. Tomorrow I’ll get to open the second box. Can’t wait. I’ll keep you informed every few days so you can see how the scene is building up.
Speaking of which, it’s about time I kept you up to date with our building work. Here are a few more pictures of the project.
Unfortunately, having got this far and ready to start laying blocks, the friendly building inspector, bless him, politely instructed us to lay new pipes which meant having to partly dig up what we’d already done. David wasn’t best pleased.
Still, after that little set back we layed the concrete floor and moved the blocks in en masse. I say ‘we’ but to be honest I haven’t contributed all that much yet.
The next thing I knew World War III had broken out between us and the neighbours and trench warfare was called for. In actual fact it turned out that Charlie had to dig up the garden to lay new water pipes. I don’t think that there’s going to be much left of my garden by the time they’ve finished.
It’s starting to take shape now though and I can just about visualise how it’s going to look.Â
Indeed, to quote the title of that great Yazz and the Plastic Population hit, ‘The Only Way Is Up’.

Greetings from America,
My name is David J. Cate and to my surprise I have come across this blog site while researching an ancestor of mine by the name of Isaac Cate. I am curious to know if this is a Cate family living in the UK. I would love to hear back from you.
Sincerely,
David J. Cate
