Punting on the Cam
On Saturday I went to Cambridge to meet up with Nic and Jon before they head off to Nepal to work for the Baptist Missionary Society.
It was a beautiful day so, along with everybody else visiting Cambridge that day, we decided to hire a punt. It was great fun. Jon took the helm to begin with and punted us along the Cam behind all of the famous colleges. I still can’t decide whether to apply for Kings, Trinity or Jesus. I’ve got a bit of time to make my mind up.
The river was really busy and we kept bumping into other people.
Jon decided to go under the cover of darkness in a manner not too disimilar to Martin Sheen in Apocalypse Now.
Daddy had a go at punting back along the river. At some points even he had to duck to avoid taking his head off.
We passed under many famous sights of Cambridge, including the Bridge of Sighs
and the mathematical bridge which was originally assembled without the use of a single nut and bolt. Only when it was taken apart to try and work out how it had been constructed, did they end up having to put it back together with nuts and bolts. Typical. And this is where our brightest students study.
We even saw a newly married couple enjoying a romantic moment together (along with hundreds of over rowdy punters).
Jon thought it a good idea to drop me into the brides lap. However, it was all too much of a Michael Jackson moment for me to cope with.
There are lots more pictures of our trip along the Cam on flickr. Just click on the link below to enjoy.
