A day on the Norfolk Broads

On Thursday the Cate family, Carl and Helen Wright and daughter Gemma and Ralf and Linda enjoyed a day on the Norfolk Broads to celebrate Linda’s birthday. Somewhat unusually despite it being Linda’s birthday she organised the day herself as a surprise for Ralf. Uhm. If you knew Ralf and Linda as well as we do then this wouldn’t necessarily sound unusual. We had a lovely day and thanks to Linda for organising the day for us.

I told you so!

Despite all the warnings about potential water shortages, Isaac chose to defy the hosepipe ban in order to keep what was left of the garden alive after what seems an eternity of sunshine. What a month July was! A bumper time for bumble bees like this one I captured over the weekend.

A Flower

Fortunately (before you call the authorities), the hosepipe ban has not been enforced in East Anglia. Having said that I did panic last week when I was watering the garden when a helicopter flew unusually low towards the house and when it was directly above the garden it turned around and went back from whence it came. Uhm. Perhaps someone had tipped them off. Just for a moment I had grandiose allusions to Good Fellas when Ray Liotta’s character is followed for days on end by a helicopter surveillance team.

watering the garden!

Anyway, Isaac’s responsible gardening began to turn for the worse when he inadvertently discovered that if you stick your hand in the spray then the water goes everywhere.

more watering

It was beginning to get to the point when the fun would surely end but when you’re 20 months old you can’t be told such things by someone like your father who has only had 36 years of experience (and who obviously has never done anything half as fun in his life).

hoses are fun!

Isaac, stop now. It will end in tears!

no they're not!

I told you so!

I suppose I should have gone to his aid but I had to capture the moment on camera. What else would a good father do? Still, the whole thing brought back great memories of Gazza 1990.
